Renovation and redecoration inspirations guide “Houzz” has won Best App in the first annual Google Play Awards, with other winners including travel discovery app “World Around Me,” and Pikachu matching game “Pokémon Shuffle Mobile.”

Five games made the ten-strong list of winners at the Google Play Awards, held May 19 at 2016’s edition of the company’s annual conference, Google I/O.

Google launches group sharing app Spaces

Google on Monday launched Spaces, a group sharing app with inbuilt Google Search, YouTube and Chrome to let users share articles, videos and images without leaving it. Users can create different groups for topics and invite others via messaging, email or a social network. Available on Android and iOS, Spaces will compete with the likes of WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.

Google has again enriched one of its most practical and spectacular applications with several new functions. The latest update to Google Translate brings a “Tap to Translate” function to Android and rolls out the offline mode to iOS.

It’s no surprise to see Google debut a major new function in the Android version of its translation tool. The new “Tap to Translate” button is available in any app, allowing Android users to select text to translate instantly into the language of their choice, with no need to copy and paste into Google Translate.

Google has also rolled out the app’s offline mode to iOS. This allows users to download dictionaries for as many languages as they like, with each language pack around 30MB in size. Simply go into the list of languages and click on the arrow next to the ones you want to use offline. A total of 52 language packs can be downloaded for use at any time.

MCC launches first Official Laws of Cricket app

London-based Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has launched the first ‘Official Laws of Cricket’ mobile application for free on Android and iOS. It explains all 42 laws of the game categorised into eight sections. There are 15 animations available, all voiced by English writer and actor Stephen Fry. The app also offers a quiz to test the user’s acquired knowledge.
